Visiting Bristol

We’re aware that many people coming to WordCamp Bristol will be coming from other parts of the UK, and indeed some are arriving from other countries outside the UK.

To help you plan your visit to Bristol we have put together some useful information for you.

Arrival and Orientation

However you are arriving in Bristol, here is how to find your way to the Watershed, the venue hosting WordCamp Bristol.

Arrival by train

Bristol has two mainline railway stations, Temple Meads and Parkway. Parkway is some distance from the centre of Bristol – Temple Meads is the station you want to arrive at.

On arrival at Temple Meads station the venue is a short taxi journey away, or about a 20 minute walk.

Arrival by bus/coach

Coaches arrive at Marlborough Street Bus Station. The Watershed is a 10 minute walk away. Note that the MegaBus stop is a short walk from the bus station on Bond Street.

Arrival by car

As in any large and bustling metropolis, parking in the centre of Bristol is scarce and expensive. Your best option if arriving in your own vehicle would be to park it on one of the following streets:

  • Elmdale Road
  • Priory Road
  • Woodland Road
  • Tyndalls Park Road

You can park on any of those streets for free from 5PM on Fri and leave it for the whole weekend. The Watershed is about a 15 minute walk away (make your way to Queens Road, then head down Park Street).

Whilst we obviously cannot guarantee the safety of your vehicle it will be as safe there as in any public place – the above-mentioned streets are in a good area with many of the buildings on those streets occupied by the University of Bristol.

Arrival by plane

Bristol International Airport is about 13km to the south of the city. Buses leave the airport every half hour and will take you to Marlborough Street Bus Station. On arrival at Marlborough Street Bus Station follow the instructions above for arrival by bus/coach.

Arrival by boat

In keeping with our maritime theme, it’s even possible to arrive by boat – but only from one side of Bristol Harbour to the other. Head for the floating harbour, hop aboard one of the yellow/blue tourist ferries and alight at Cascade Steps, which is just outside the Watershed.
